Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cabinet has decided to reopen the case of alleged corruption in Bus Rapid Transit (BRT).
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated the Bus Rapid Transit Project in Peshawar on August 13, 2020. When this project was under construction, NAB and FIA were investigating the alleged corruption on this project, but the Supreme Court stopped NAB and FIA from investigating in 2021 on the request of the provincial government.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet has decided to reopen the corruption case which was closed in the past.
The cabinet has decided to contact NAB and FIA for investigation to reopen the corruption case in BRT Peshawar. It has also been decided to investigate the low income and high expenditure of BRT.
It should be noted that in 2020, the Supreme Court had ordered to stop the investigation into the alleged corruption in the BRT Peshawar project.
This order of the Supreme Court was given on the appeal filed by the PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government against the decision of the Peshawar High Court.
It should be noted that in 2019, a bench of the High Court headed by the then Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth ordered the FIA to investigate the project.
