The Economic Coordination Committee approved local gas supply to fertilizer plants, rejecting the proposal to import fertilizer from abroad.
Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee, in which the Ministry of Industry and Production presented an estimate of the supply and demand of urea fertilizer for the upcoming kharif crop in the country.

Rejecting the proposal to import urea fertilizer, the ECC directed the Petroleum Division to supply local gas to the fertilizer plants so that the requirement of urea for Kharif crops in 2023 could be met.
According to the Economic Coordination Committee, gas will be supplied to urea fertilizer plants till 31 May 2023.
The Ministry of Finance says that the purpose of this decision is to meet the requirements of urea fertilizer for Kharif crop.
It should be noted that crops were severely damaged across the country due to heavy rains and floods last year.
