Tokyo: The Japanese are fanatical about cleanliness, and at the local level, people even gather in the neighborhood to compete in litter picking. Now Japan has announced to hold a global garbage picking competition in November this year.
The competition is named ‘Spogomi’, where Spo means sports and Gomi means garbage in Japanese. Although these contests are held in Japan, three to five people pick up the trash within a set time limit, and according to the rules, the winner receives first to third place honors.
In November 2023, Japan is holding a global competition in which teams from around the world will try to pick up trash from the streets of Tokyo. Each of these teams is given a target to collect as much garbage as possible in 60 minutes. The participants have to put this waste in the designated color bins. Garbage includes incinerated waste, recyclable plastics and metal items). At the end of the time, the referee will weigh the garbage and announce the winner. However, the most points are earned for collecting the cigarette butts.
According to the Japanese government, the organization of this global competition is to encourage cleanliness around the world and they also care about the cleanliness of their surroundings. Then since 2008, local spogumi competitions have been held in Japan. It also has interesting rules and regulations.
