Bad news for electricity consumers, the National Electric and Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved the imposition of an additional surcharge of Rs 3.39 paise per unit, which will apply to electricity consumers across the country including Karachi.
On the request of the federal government, Nepra decided to impose additional surcharge on electricity, according to which the additional surcharge will be charged from March to June. The Economic Coordination Committee has already approved this surcharge.

After the increase by Nepra, the total surcharge per unit of electricity will be Rs 3.82 paise, which will be applicable across the country including electricity consumers.

According to the report, an additional 75 billion rupees will be collected from consumers till June, at this time consumers are paying only 43 paise per unit surcharge, next financial year this surcharge will be reduced to 1 rupee 43 paise per unit.
