A woman and a man fell into a manhole in Karachi, the man jumped to save the woman.

Two manholes opened in Karachi and took away precious lives. A mother of four and a man died after falling into a manhole in Orangi Town Sector 14.

The dead woman has been identified as Razia Bibi, while the deceased man was a fruit stacker who saw Razia Bibi falling into the manhole and jumped to save her, but died due to poisonous gas.

Police are identifying the dead fruit vendor.

The bodies were shifted to Abbasi Hospital for legal proceedings.

According to the family members, Razia Bibi was returning home from the office while fasting when she fell into the sewer.

The family members say that the UC authorities were not able to fix the lid, accidents used to happen due to open drains, today the member of our house has passed away.

Expressing his sorrow, his son said that today our mother’s support has gone from our head.

Earlier, the heirs of laborer Abid Ali, who died after falling into an open drain in October 2021, had claimed Rs 1 crore 44 lakh as damages against the Sindh government and DMC.

The petitioner’s lawyer Usman Farooq Advocate had stated that Mohammad Arif died after falling into the drain while coming home from office in July last year. A valuable person was killed due to the negligence of the Sindh government, KMC and DMC.

Even today, most manholes in the city are uncovered. Institutions are not doing their job and citizens are suffering the consequences.
