Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has allowed Elon Musk’s company to launch satellite internet service subject to security clearance.
Elon Musk, owner of microblogging website Twitter and international electric car maker Tesla, also owns SpaceX, a company that privately sends satellites into space.
SpaceX is also a subsidiary of Starlink which provides internet facility through satellite in different countries of the world.
Starlink also wants to start its operations in Pakistan and in this regard the company has applied to the authorized body PTA in Pakistan for permission.
According to PTA documents, Starlink has submitted a technical and business plan for operations in Pakistan, the company’s use of satellite-to-satellite laser technology is also being considered.
According to documents received by Sama, various stakeholders object to data hosting outside Pakistan, SPARCO and other organizations have termed satellite internet as a security risk.
Taking into consideration the objections of the stakeholders, the PTA has made the permission of satellite internet subject to security clearance.
