Official documents have revealed that tax cases worth Rs 2,330 billion have been pending in the courts for many years. The FBI has so far failed to recover the cases.
According to the documents, more than 63 thousand cases worth 1463 billion are pending in the tax tribunal.
On the second place, 5428 cases worth 294 billion are pending in the Lahore High Court, while on the third place, 1017 cases worth 245 billion are pending in the Islamabad High Court.
According to the report, 2,659 cases worth 222 billion are pending in Sindh High Court, 397 cases worth 8 billion in Peshawar High Court, 11 cases worth 3 billion in Balochistan High Court, while 3182 cases worth 96 billion are pending in the Supreme Court.
IMF demands tax collection from rich class
The report revealed that 5496 cases worth 1663 billion were disposed of by various courts. In which the highest 3702 cases worth 1593 billion were settled by the Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue, 1352 cases worth 36 billion were settled by the High Courts while 442 cases of 4 billion were settled by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
On the other hand, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) officials maintain that they have requested the courts to dispose of the cases quickly. A total of 76 thousand 349 tax cases are pending in different courts.
